Stoke Damerel Primary Academy Enhances Wrap Around Care for Pupils with Vibrant Breakfast and After School Club

At Stoke Damerel Primary Academy, part of Reach South, every initiative is rooted in one core belief: everything we do is for the children.

In line with this ethos, the academy has developed a thriving Breakfast and After School Club (BASC) to provide pupils with a fun, engaging, and nurturing environment beyond the traditional school day. The provision offers a wide range of activities, nutritious food and drink, and the opportunity for children to socialise and play with their peers in a safe and welcoming space.

“We know that children come into school more settled and ready to learn when they’ve had a positive start to their day,” said Headteacher Annie Blackie. “This provision is really all about the children and making sure they have a positive and exciting start and end to the school day; they always want to come back!”

The club has been met with enthusiastic feedback from both children and parents, with attendance numbers steadily increasing. For many working families, the BASC has become an essential support, offering peace of mind that their children are well cared for in a stimulating environment.

Thanks to a capital grant from Plymouth City Council, the academy has been able to invest in transforming the physical space into a child-friendly, vibrant setting that reflects the joy and energy of its young attendees. Every penny of the funding was used to ensure the environment is as welcoming and pleasant as possible - making it a place children look forward to each day.
