Plymouth Pupils Make a Difference with Generous Foodbank Donations

Drake Primary’s Harvest Festival Supports Local Families in Need.

Pupils, staff, and families at Drake Primary Academy, part of the Reach South Academy Trust, came together this month to celebrate the school’s annual Harvest Festival, an event full of music, creativity, and community spirit.

The celebration featured three lively harvest songs and a heartfelt message from Father David of St Thomas the Apostle, highlighting the importance of gratitude and giving.

Pupils’ artistic talents were also showcased in an autumn art competition, with entries judged by the school governors. The school was thrilled by the number of entries to the art competition and winners were announced during the festival.

At Drake Primary Academy, staff are developing an art curriculum that nurtures confidence, expression, and wellbeing in every child. From drawing and painting to textiles, sculpture, and food technology, children build knowledge and skills progressively throughout their primary education. Drake pupils are encouraged to be inquisitive, creative, and proud of their achievements while learning about different artists, techniques, and design processes.

The school community also demonstrated overwhelming generosity  through food donations. Contributions will support Devon and Cornwall Food Action and Phoenix Larder, helping local families in need. Emma Veale, joined the celebrations to ensure that the donations are distributed to those who need them most.

At Devon and Cornwall Food Action they  provide nutritious food,  ensuring that no one has to go hungry due to low wages, sudden crises or health conditions. The Phoenix Larder is based in Honicknowle and supports local families via referrals.

Jacqueline Stephens, Executive Headteacher at Drake Primary Academy said:

“We were absolutely blown away by the kindness and support shown during our Harvest Festival. It’s wonderful to see our pupils, families, and staff coming together to make a real difference in our community. Events like this remind us all of the power of giving and celebrating together.”
