Marlborough Primary's Louise Kendall Recognised Among the Country’s Best

Marlborough Primary School in Plymouth, part of Reach South Academy Trust, is delighted to announce that teacher and maths lead, Louise Kendall, has been named a Silver Winner in the ‘Award for Teacher of the Year in a Primary School’ category at the prestigious Pearson National Teaching Awards 2026.

The Silver Award is one of the highest accolades in education and recognises Louise's exceptional teaching, warm approach and unwavering commitment to ensuring every child succeeds. The award celebrates the significant impact she has on the lives of pupils, colleagues and the wider school community.
She has now been shortlisted to win one of Pearson’s Gold Awards, Gold winners will be announced in November
Louise is widely respected for her ability to make learning accessible, challenging and engaging for every child in her classroom. Her passion for mathematics is evident not only in her teaching but also in the continuing professional development she leads across the school, supporting colleagues through precise and encouraging feedback that strengthens teaching practice and improves outcomes for pupils.
In her classroom, Louise creates a safe, inclusive and inspiring learning environment. Pupils describe her as a teacher who makes learning fun, listens to their needs and celebrates their achievements. One pupil reflected: "There is never a moment in the day I am not learning." Another commented: "Mrs Kendall makes me excited to come to school."
Her commitment to pupils' wider development is equally remarkable. She leads lunchtime clubs and the school marathon initiative, giving children opportunities for physical activity, confidence-building and wellbeing. Under her guidance, fifteen pupils have successfully trained for the Plymouth School Challenge.
The Silver Award winners are being honoured as part of the wider celebrations for Thank a Teacher Day, a national campaign recognising the outstanding contribution of teachers and school staff across the country.
